In Memorial: Robert T. Ford Nov. 17, 1961 – Oct. 2, 1994

Ken Hare and Simone Bouyer celebrate the enduring legacy of Robert T. Ford, the founder, and publisher of Think Ink and THING ‘zines (two self-published magazines 1987-1993).

On Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023, we attended the Brooklyn Museum artists’ reception for Copy Machine Manifestos: Artists Who Make Zines. The extensive exhibition covers 50 years of American-made zines starting in the 70s.

Today, Copy Machine Manifestos officially opened to the public on what would’ve been Robert T. Ford’s 62nd earthday. THING ‘zine is prominently featured in the exhibition alongside its contemporaries continuing the buzz that Ford intended.

This historic exhibition was made possible thanks to the Brooklyn Museum’s extensive curatorial team and its generous sponsors. This is yet another milestone for the vanguard artists that captured American underground culture. And a very special day for Robert T. Ford.

Nappy earthday Robert! Heaven is rejoicing tonight.
